Thanks to BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, we often get to see popular music acts treating us with surprising covers and exciting versions of their own songs. The latest one to drop at the Live Lounge was British grime rapper Stormzy, who decided to do a cover of Beyoncé’s Lion King song “Brown Skin Girl” as part of his appearance.

Stormzy teamed up with singer Stalk Ashley for the cover, while also adding his own original verse to the track. The best of all is that you can also hear “Shut Up” rapper sing during the performance, which doesn’t happen very often.

Check out Stormzy and Stalk Ashley’s rendition of “Brown Skin Girl” below.

“Brown Skin Girl” was part of the Lion King soundtrack album which was produced and curated by Beyoncé. The song, which also featured vocals from Guyanese singer Saint Jhn, Nigerian singer Wizkid and Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy Carter, met with positive reviews and managed to peak at No.6 at US Billboard Hot 100 charts.

As part of his BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge appearance, Stormzy also presented his new track “Sounds of the Skeng.” Hear it below.
