Neil Young was a headliner in the Harvest Moon festival on Sunday. He performed in the Gathering charity concert with Norah Jones and Father John Misty. The concert was held in Lake Hughes, California.

Alongside other hits, the audience was treated to a rare performance. Young played “New Mama” – a track taken from Tonight’s The Night album. He played the song for the first time in 42 years.

New Mama was featured in Young’s shows throughout his 1973 tour “time fades away” and “tonight’s the Night”. Since then he has played it only twice more: in a show in 1975 and in a benefit in 1977.

Young played a 14-song acoustic set that included classics like Old Man, new songs like Eternity, and a Buffalo Springfield song. Towards the end, he treated the crowd with New Mama. The show benefited the Bridge School and the Painted Turtle summer camp, non profit organizations that provide support to children with severe medical conditions and physical impediments.

In October 25, Young’s new album with his group Crazy Horse is due to be released. The album, Colorado, contains songs like “Milky Way” and “Rainbow of Colors.”
