The nominees for the 2019 Hyundai Mercury Prize have been announced.

The Mercury Prize is an annual music prize awarded for the best album released in the United Kingdom by a British or Irish act. It is the notable alternative to the Brit Awards and was established in 1992.

This year, the ceremony will take place at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, London. The winners will be announced during the ceremony on September 19.

The list of nominees this year includes Anna Calvi, who shattered gender norms in her latest record, Hunter. The politically charged IDLES album Joy as an Act of Resistance also made the list along with Black Midi.
