Music will be the focal point of HBO’s new show The Idol, and its soundtrack will be as epic as it gets. The Weeknd teased its release by dropping a new song with Madonna and Playboi Carti, in addition to revealing that the full album will hit the shelves on June 30.

The Idol Vol. 1 will feature the songs that The Weeknd co-wrote alongside Metro Boomin and Mike Dean. “Double Fantasy” featuring Future was released as its first single, and The Weeknd just dropped “Popular” ft. Playboi Carti and Madonna ahead of The Idol premiere this Friday.

The music video for this song was filmed during the show’s world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last month, and it features The Idol cast and crew, including the director Sam Levinson and the leading lady Lily-Rose Depp.

The Weeknd discussed The Idol soundtrack with Interview Magazine and cited David Bowie, Prince, and Pink Floyd as his main inspiration.

“I’ve been inspired by The Wall and Purple Rain and when Bowie was doing it, but even in films like Shaft, the music is literally telling the story of the film. But I want to take it to the next level. I want to challenge myself and I feel like, as a musician, I’m the best I’ve ever been,” The Weeknd explained.
