The National’s ninth studio album is coming our way next month, and they teased its release with another amazing single. The music video for the band’s new song “Eucalyptus” is here, and its melancholic tone perfectly sums up the vibe of the whole album.

The National previously played this song live on tour during their performance at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY. After getting a raw, immediate feeling from the audience, they decided to put the song on the album, even using some of the footage recorded during their live performance.

According to the band’s vocalist Matt Berninger, this song explores similar themes as the rest of the album, focusing on the fallout of a relationship.

“There’s a lot of looking into the abyss and wondering if a relationship has run its course. ‘Eucalyptus” is about a couple splitting up their possessions after a breakup… It’s about all those little things you end up having to think about when you’ve become so connected to someone,” said Berninger in a press release.

“Eucalyptus” was released as the third single from the band’s upcoming album First Two Pages of Frankenstein. This LP will hit the shelves on April 28, and it will feature collaborations with Sufjan Stevens, Phoebe Bridgers, and Taylor Swift.
