It’s been four years since Taylor Swift released her song “Cruel Summer”, and its climb to the top of the charts was a joy to watch. After experiencing viral popularity and being released as an official single a few months ago, “Cruel Summer” finally reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Seeing “Cruel Summer” ascend to the summit is a huge deal considering how long it’s been since this song was initially released. It was a part of Swift’s seventh studio album Lover, which came out in 2019, but it was overshadowed by other splashier singles despite quickly becoming a fan favorite.

“Cruel Summer” experienced a huge renaissance in recent months, and Swift’s record-breaking The Eras Tour deserves all the credit for putting it back on the map. The singer eventually decided to honor it by releasing The Cruelest Summer EP, featuring the original song, live performance, and Giobbi remix.

“Cruel Summer” is Swift’s tenth song to top the Billboard Hot 100, and she thanked her fans for making it happen alongside her frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff.

“We just wanted to say thank you so much for making ‘Cruel Summer’ a Hot 100 No. 1. It’s not even summer anymore – it’s deep fall, I’m wearing a sweater. We love you guys!” said Swift in the video shared on her Instagram.
