We have a long wait until CHVRCHES new album Love Is Dead drops on 25 May 2018, but at least the Scottish synthpop band gave us another taste of the music this release will contain. On Wednesday the band presented a new song “My Enemy,” collab with The National frontman Matt Berninger and the second single from Love Is Dead after “Get Out.”

Now, we have to say that “My Enemy” sounds a bit odd for CHVRCHES, but we don’t mean it in a bad way. It has a slower, more calming sound to it compared to “Get Out”, while Matt’s soothing voice fits perfectly together with Lauren’s clean and bright vocals. Packed with emotions, “My Enemy” will be an immediate favorite for anyone who holds back some estranged feelings towards former or current love interest.

“I got no more time to hear what you think about me. Because all your words are so cold, so callous, so clean,” sings Matt.

“And you could be my enemy, and you could be my judge. If you could start remembering all the time that you used up,” responds Lauren.

This is one of those songs that might not get you at first, but you’ll still hit replay. Then again, and again, and again until you fall in love with it. It may bring up some unwanted memories, but the sorrow can be beautiful, as this song reminds us.

If “My Enemy” ends up being the best song on Love Is Dead, it still won’t be a bad album. If it happens to be just a glimpse of what we are in for, then CHVRCHES are set up for new heights. All in all, this is one of those songs that you can’t hear just once and forget about it. It will stick with you, and make the wait for Love Is Dead a much more enjoyable experience.
