After a lot of anticipation, Selena Gomez finally dropped her first solo single of 2023 – and it was worth waiting for. The offbeat music video for “Single Soon” sees Gomez celebrating her freedom and having the time of her life with her best friends.
The lyrics of “Single Soon” deliver an empowering ode to self-love, and the music video does the same. Gomez is seen picking up a stylish outfit for a wild night out with friends after deciding to break up with her ex. After a night of drinking, dancing, singing karaoke, and swimming in a pool, they all fall asleep together in the same bed.
Gomez described “Single Soon” as “a fun little song I wrote a while back” and added she wanted to share it with fans before the end of the summer, while they wait for the release of her next album.
When discussing her upcoming album with Vanity Fair back in February, Gomez said she’d write ballads for the rest of her life if she could, but she’s currently focusing on making music that will make people smile.
“The music I’m doing right now is about real things that I’m walking through. It’s really powerful, strong, very pop. The theme generally is freedom—freedom from relationships, freedom from the darkness,” she explained.
