The tenth anniversary of Miley Cyrus’ seminal album Bangerz is just around the corner, and she came up with a perfect way to look back at this era. She dropped an emotional music video for “Used to Be Young”, a reflective ballad about one of the most tumultuous times of her life.
The music video for “Used To Be Young” sees the singer paying homage to her Disney days by rocking a Mickey Mouse shirt, and it’s as heart-wrenching as it gets. The emotional visual shows Cyrus going through the motions, but her tears eventually turn into a smile while she looks back at her past with no regrets, while singing, “I know I used to be crazy / I know I used to be fun / You say I used to be wild / I say I used to be young.”
Cyrus revealed that she started working on “Used to Be Young” two years ago, before throwing herself into her latest album Endless Summer Vacation. She explained that its lyrics came together during a time when she felt misunderstood, adding that this song will continue to write itself every day.
“This song is about honoring who we’ve been, loving who we are, and celebrating who we will become. I feel proud when reflecting on my past and optimistic when thinking about the future,” said Cyrus in a press release, and dedicated “Used To Be Young” to her loyal fans “who make dreams a reality daily.”
