Country music has a stigma attached to it. Most people think about square dancin’, fiddles and cowboy hats when they think about country music.

But a lot of today’s big country superstars could easily find their way to Top 40 radio, with listeners being none-the-wiser about their Nashville roots and southern accents.

One such singer is Sam Hunt. He doesn’t look, sound or act like the typical country cowboy stereotype. Much like other country artists, Hunt is a storyteller. Each song unfolds a different tale, every single one of them relatable on some level. But unlike his friends in Nashville, he doesn’t limit himself to singing in the classic sense of the word. Instead, he draws you in with some smooth R&B sounds and spoken verses.

His song, “Body Like A Back Road,” was one of the biggest crossover hits of 2017, peaking at #6 on Billboard’s US Adult Top 40 chart and hitting #8 in Billboard’s Hot 100 year-end chart. If that wasn’t enough, the song went 5 times platinum in the US, with over 1.8 million in sales.

While fans are eagerly awaiting his second album, here are 5 other great songs from his debut record Montevallo.

Take Your Time

Hunt’s first crossover song “Take Your Time” was also a massive hit.

Cop Car

Hunt co-wrote this song for Keith Urban’s Fuse album, but couldn’t resist including his own version on Montevallo.

Break Up In A Small Town

Breaking up is never easy, but it’s even harder when you live in a place so small you instantly know when your ex has moved on — and with who.

House Party

If you’re a home body, or you simply don’t feel like getting all dressed up and going out – not a problem. Sam Hunt will bring the party to you.

Make You Miss Me

Everyone knows at least one person that never seems content with what they have, and constantly seeks the next shiny new thing. Well, Sam Hunt knows just how to deal with such girls: He’s going to make sure they remember him.
