PinkPantheress found huge success with her Y2K-inspired music in recent years, and many of her songs share one thing in common. They are rarely more than three minutes long, and the rising R&B star recently explained why she prefers shorter songs.
PinkPantheress recently sat down with ABC News to discuss her rise to prominence. In addition to writing and performing her own music, she’s also producing it, and she dropped some hints about her creative process, including the reason why she prefers shorter songs.
“I was able to experiment and making short songs was just a result of me experimenting,” she said. A song doesn’t need to be longer than 2 minutes 30, in my opinion. We don’t need to repeat a verse, we don’t need to have a bridge, we don’t need it. We don’t need a long outro,” she explained.
This approach worked for PinkPantheress, and many of her biggest hits clock at less than three minutes, including “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” ft. Ice Space and “Nice to Meet You” ft. Central Cee. Her opinion, however, caused a lot of commotion online, with fans describing it as “TikTokfication” of music and commenting that longer songs tend to explore deeper emotions and themes.
