Olivia Rodrigo knocked it out of the park with her new single “Vampire”, and it was just a matter of time before this song started its chart domination. That moment finally arrived after “Vampire” easily debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her third song to do so.

“Vampire” drew 35.5 million streams, 26.3 million radio airplay audience impressions, and sold 26,000 copies in its first week on the chart. By doing so, it replaced Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart after ten consecutive weeks.

Rodrigo is no stranger to no. 1 debuts and “Vampire” is her third single to achieve this feat, following in the footsteps of “Drivers License” and “Good 4 U”.

In an interview with Billboard, Rodrigo described “Vampire” as a song about feeling used and dealing with the anger, regret, and heartbreak that comes with it.

“It’s kind of an angry song, and I think I have a lot of trouble expressing feelings like anger and regret… I go to songwriting to get those feelings out that aren’t super comfortable to express in everyday life. So it was a very therapeutic experience, writing this song,” the Grammy-winner explained.

“Vampire” will serve as the lead single on her upcoming sophomore studio album Guts, which will be released on September 8 through Geffen Records.
