Morgan Wallen stirred controversy with the last-minute cancelation at one of his recent concerts, and it will take a while before his fans get to hear him live again. The country star announced he’ll postpone six weeks of concerts due to vocal fold trauma.

Wallen took to social media to tell his fans he received some bad news from his doctors at the Vanderbilt Voice Center, who recommended vocal rest for the next six weeks. The singer revealed he’s experiencing vocal fold trauma after re-injuring his vocal cords after performing three shows last weekend in Florida.

“They told me that if I do this the right way, I’ll get back to 100% and they also said that if I don’t listen and I keep singing, then I’ll permanently damage my voice. So for the longevity of my career, this is just a choice I had to make,” he explained.

Wallen recently came under fire after canceling a concert at Vaught–Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi just minutes before he was supposed to perform. That didn’t hurt his success on the charts, and his latest album One Thing at a Time returned to no. 1 on the Billboard 200 for the ninth consecutive time this week.
