The tragic death of hip-hop sensation XXXTentacion in June last year took the whole world by storm, and his collaborator Lil Wayne decided to honor him in a very special way. He filmed a video for their song “Don’t Cry” and dropped it just in time for birthday of the late rapper.

XXXTentacion recorded his vocals for this song prior to his death, and Lil Wayne felt the world deserves to hear it. “Don’t Cry” was released on September 28, with the rest of his twelfth studio album Tha Carter V”. The song peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and Lil Wayne could’ve easily used the momentum and released a video right there and then, but he was waiting for the perfect moment.

The “Don’t Cry” video has a post-apocalyptic feel and mostly shows Lil Wayne sitting on a throne in the middle of the desert. The last few seconds are the most touching part, since they feature archival footage of XXXTentacion, having a time of his life while performing in front of his fans.
