Lil Nas X managed to create so much buzz with his latest single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” that it was just a matter of time before he pole danced to the top of the charts. That moment is finally here, and this smash hit easily topped the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the rapper’s second no. 1 single.
With 21,000 downloads, 46.9 million streams, and 1.1 million radio airplay audience impressions, “Montero” easily soared to no. 1 and Lil Nas X thanked his team and his fans for making it possible.
“Y’all told a 19-year-old who had just escaped the lowest point of his life that he would never have a hit again. You told him to stop while he’s ahead. He could’ve [given] up. But 4 multi-platinum songs and 2 #1’s later, he’s still here,” wrote the rapper on Twitter.
“Montero” is expected to be featured on Lil Nas X’s debut album of the same name, set to be released later this year. It’s his first chart-topping single since his breakout hit “Old Town Road”, which still holds the record as the longest-running no. 1 hit in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, with 19 weeks on top.
