Lil Nas X is currently gearing up for the release of his sophomore studio album, but that’s not the only thing keeping him busy. His documentary Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero will arrive on HBO this month, and he recently teased its release with a brand-new trailer.

According to HBO’s official logline, Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero captures the creative dynamo and mesmerizing star power of Lil Nas X, by following “the genre-breaking artist as he navigates his meteoric rise to fame, his desire to inspire his fans, and his place in the pantheon of Black queer icons.”

This documentary was filmed over 60 days during his Long Live Montero Tour, and it will be divided into three acts: Rebirth, Transformation, and Becoming. In addition to seeing him tour the world, the first trailer shows the Grammy-winning rapper getting candid about his career and the struggles he faced as a queer Black man.

Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall, and it’s set to arrive on HBO on January 27. Lil Nas X shared the first trailer less than a week after dropping his comeback single “J Christ”, set to be featured on his upcoming second studio album.
