Kim Gordon has given us several amazing albums with Sonic Youth, but she’s been focusing on solo projects since the band’s split. She’s currently gearing up for the release of her second solo studio album The Collective, set to hit the shelves in March.

The Collective will be released on March 8 via Matador, and it marks Gordon’s first solo album in five years. She joined forces with producers Justin Raisen and Anthony Paul Lopez to bring this album to life, and gave us a taste of things to come with the new song “Bye Bye”.

Clara Balzary directed the music video for “Bye Bye”, which stars the singer’s daughter Coco Gordon Moore. She plays a carefree teen trying to run away from home and finds shelter at a run-down motel, where she changes her clothes and cuts her hair, but her mom eventually shows up to pick her up.

The Collective will mark Gordon’s first solo album since No Home Record in 2019, but it’s not the only project she’s been working on since Sonic Youth’s split. She also released music with bands Body/Head and Glitterbust, in addition to dropping a collaborative album The Issue with Loren Connors in 2022.
