Katy Perry has been a key member of American Idol’s judging panel for seven seasons, but she’s ready to say goodbye. “Teenage Dream” singer recently discussed her future on the show and revealed this season will probably be her last.

Perry recently set down for an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, and they took a moment to discuss her future on American Idol. She shocked the audience by saying that the upcoming Season 22 will probably be her last alongside co-hosts Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.

Making this decision wasn’t easy for Perry, who told Kimmel she loves The Idol “so much”, adding “It’s connected me with the heart of America but I feel like I need to feel that pulse to my own beat.”

Perry’s American Idol departure makes sense in the grand scheme of things because she has a lot of exciting plans for 2024. She’ll headline Rock in Rio in Brazil this fall, and she’s currently gearing up for the release of new music.

Perry joined American Idol in 2018 and stuck around for seven seasons, including the upcoming Season 22, set to premiere on February 12 on ABC. She’s open to coming back in the future, but her main goal for 2024 is to “see the world and maybe bring new music.”
