It’s been five years since Justin Timberlake dropped his last studio album, but it seems he’s finally gearing up for a comeback. According to his longtime collaborator and producer Timbaland, the pop star finished recording his next studio album and it’s up to him when he’s going to share it with the world.

Timbaland recently set down with Variety to discuss some of his upcoming projects and addressed the status of Timberlake’s next studio album.

“We just finished up and everything sounds great. Now it’s really on him how and when he envisions it to come out, but it’s done and it’s coming… It’s fun Justin — it’s like FutureSex/LoveSounds but nothing too heavy, just giving you what you expect from us,” he explained.

Timberlake has been collaborating with Timbaland since the very start of his solo career, starting with the singer’s breakout solo hit “Cry Me a River”. He went on to produce Timberlake’s debut album Justified and most of his subsequent LPs and singles.

It’s been over five years since Timberlake released his last studio album Man of the Woods in 2018. This album debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart, and its singles “Filthy” and “Say Something” ft. Chris Stapleton reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, with the latter scoring a Grammy nod for best pop duo/group performance.
