Lil Pump’s 2017 hit Gucci Gang can not be denied from its annoyance inducing factor and some people would categorize the writing as “mindless.” But since the track was released, it also garnered praise from big names in the music industry – the latest is punk legend Iggy Pop.

Talking to NME about his new album Free, pop praised the teenage Miami rapper’s songwriting. “I was so interested in the construction of a song a while ago called ‘Gucci Gang,’” he said. “He took, what, a minute to write it? He went straight to the hook and did the hook have a melody? Nooooo. Did it have a phrase? It had no pre-chorus. It’s just ‘Gucci Gang Gucci Gang Gucci Gang Gucci Gang Gucci Gang’, and I thought, ‘This is great!’”

As mentioned above, Pop is not the first to endorse the rapper’s songwriting abilities. Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl compared the song to Minor Threat. It is also worth mentioning that the Stooges Creator is known for his not-so-generous wording in his songs – admitting that no song should contain more than 25 words.

So, do you agree with Pop, or do you prefer a little more complexity in your lyrics?
