Halle Bailey’s first solo single was a long time coming, and the wait is finally over. After taking some time away from music to focus on her role in The Little Mermaid, Bailey is finally back with her long-awaited debut solo single “Angel”.

The heavenly video for Bailey’s new song was directed by Wendy Morgan, and it lives up to its title. Bailey looks truly angelic in a series of all-white outfits while singing and dancing along to the song’s lyrics and climbing stairs that lead to the sky. The video closes with archival footage that takes us back to the singer’s childhood, showcasing her early performances.

Bailey said that this song is very near and dear to her heart and that it helped her see things more clearly after finding herself in the “bubble of all these eyes and new opinions” set on her in the past few years.

“This song for me was my climb out of those feelings, a mantra and promise to myself that the work I’m doing here on earth matters and that I matter. I wanted to be able to embrace and be proud of myself and who I am naturally through and through,” she explained in a statement.

Before releasing “Angel”, Bailey found success as a part of the R&B duo Chloe x Halle with her sister Chloe, who released her debut studio album In Pieces earlier this year.
