Grimes called music her “side quest” earlier this year, but that doesn’t mean she’s not working on something new. She recently took to Twitter to reveal that she has new music on the way but pointed out this isn’t her main priority.

Grimes has been teasing all sorts of different projects on social media recently, but music doesn’t seem to be her main focus. This prompted one fan to write, “pls remember that u are also a singer,” and she was quick to reply.

“I was never a singer. I was just good enough at engineering to make it sound like I was. The ideas always came first, and Grimes has always been most loved when I focused on innovating.  Lots of new music to come, but y’all can find singers anywhere,” Grimes wrote on Twitter.

Grimes also said that her new music “is just so next level” and added she’ll start dropping new songs as soon as she’s done recording them because it’s been too long and she doesn’t want her fans to wait for a full album.

Grimes’ latest studio album Miss Anthropocene came out in 2020, and it produced singles “Violence”, “So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth”, “My Name Is Dark”, “4ÆM”, and “Delete Forever”. She’s been actively working on new music in the wake of its release and collaborated with many other artists, including Ashnikko, Bella Poarch, and Caroline Polachek.
