Green Day gave us the rebel girl anthem with their song “Last of the American Girls”, and their hit single is currently growing into something much bigger. Graphic novel based on this empowering song is scheduled for publication this fall.

This exciting book has been described as “an inspiring homage and handbook for the rebellious everywoman who refuses to capitulate” and celebration of “true rebel girls”. It will hit the shelves on October 29, via Dey Street Books.

Cartoonist Frank Caruso will be in charge of illustrating this graphic novel. He previously worked closely with Bruce Springsteen, and served as illustrator of his book “Outlaw Pete”.

“Last of the American Girls” is the best possible choice for a graphic novel, especially because it comes with a pretty touching back story. Billie Joe Armstrong originally wrote it for his wife, but this process inspired him to dig deep into his own beliefs.

“It’s sort of about an empowering, sort of subterranean kind of lifestyle, but at the same time, there’s a new era coming in with the way we all need to live,” Green Day’s frontman told Blunt Magazine in 2009.
