Eminem is getting ready to kill off his iconic alter ego Slim Shady on his next studio album, and the first phase of his master plan is finally here. He stepped into the past in the music video for his latest single “Houdini” and brought some of his celebrity friends along for the ride.
“Houdini” is a clear love letter to Eminem’s 2002 single “Without Me”. Its opening lyrics “Guess who’s back, back again/Shady’s back, tell a friend” are directly taken from this song, and he even steps into the portal that takes him back to this era at one point.
In addition to giving us nostalgia overload, the music video for “Houdini” sees Eminem reunite with some of his best celebrity BFFs. Rappers Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, and Snoop Dogg all make an appearance, along with the comedian Pete Davidson, who jumps into Eminem’s car, rocking bleached hair, at the very end of the video.
“Houdini” serves as the first single from Eminem’s new album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), which he first teased during the NFL Draft in Detroit back in April. The first promo video saw a crime show host reporting about the death of Slim Shady, describing him as an anti-hero whose rude tongue-twisting rhymes may have ultimately led to his demise.
