The list of artists who had the honor of winning Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards is pretty short, and Elton John just became one of them. The English rock legend is the latest member to join the exclusive EGOT club after winning his first Emmy Award.

John received a nod for an outstanding variety special for Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium, recorded for Disney+ during his tour Farewell Yellow Brick Road. The list of contenders also included the most recent Academy Awards and Tony Awards ceremonies, Rihanna’s Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show, and Chris Rock’s comedy special Selective Outrage, but John managed to beat them all to take the trophy home.

By doing so, John finally completed his journey towards the EGOT. He’s also the winner of five Grammy awards, one Tony for the best original score for Aida, and two Oscars for the best original song for “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King and “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” from Rocketman.

Elton John missed the Emmy Awards due to a recent knee operation, but he thanked the Television Academy for this prestigious honor on social media.

“Thank you to all the fans, friends, and collaborators who have supported me throughout the years. Honoured to have joined the hallowed ranks of EGOT winners, here’s to the joy of music and the magic it brings to our lives!” he wrote on Instagram.
