Ted Lasso has given us many amazing musical moments over the years, and one of the very best came at the end of Season 3. This episode serves as a potential series finale, and Ed Sheeran helped the beloved comedy sign off with an emotional new track “A Beautiful Game”.

The British hitmaker loves the Jason Sudeikis-led series about the charming football coach Ted Lasso as much as the rest of us, and he wrote this track about a year ago, inspired by the energy of his fans during live performances.

“I recorded bits of it whilst on tour using crowds from the stadiums that I’ve been playing, and I’m super, super, super proud of it. I love the show. I’ve loved working on this song. I hope you enjoy it – just a bit of fun,” said Sheeran on Instagram.

Even though the ending of Ted Lasso was never officially confirmed, the Season 3 finale neatly wraps up all the major storylines, and Sheeran’s lyrics perfectly reflect that: “Though we’ve not reached the end/We should take some time apart/Leave here with no regrets/Knowing we gave our all.”

May has been a pretty busy month for Sheeran – before wrapping things up with the release of “A Beautiful Game”, her dropped his sixth studio album Subtract on May 5 and released music videos for all of the album’s 14 tracks.
