After conquering the world of pop music and concluding his Mathematics era, Ed Sheeran is ready for another challenge. The British singer doubled down on his plans to make a shift to country music after spending a few years living in Nashville.

Sheeran recently promoted his latest album Subtract with a performance on The Today Show and shared some hints about his future. He teased a potential genre switch and said that the world of country music is one of the new arenas that he’d like to explore.

“I’ve known for the last 13 years what Mathematics would be, and now it’s, like, what to do next? I lived in Nashville for a couple of years, and I kind of fell in love with [country music] there. That’s something I would love to do at some point,” he explained.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard Sheeran discussing a potential shift to country. He recently collaborated with the country powerhouse Luke Combs on a new version of “Life Goes On” and they ended up performing it together at the ACM Awards.

While attending the ceremony, Sheeran told Billboard that he fell in love with the culture of country music while living in Nashville, Texas across two periods in 2013 and 2018, adding he felt really inspired during his time there.
