Deftones’ new album is coming our way this year, but they really took their sweet time with this record. The band’s drummer Abe Cunningham recently discussed their creative process with Mixdown, and explained why this album took so long to make.

Deftones’ last album Gore hit the shelves in 2016, and Cunningham explained they wanted to do things a bit differently this time around and took things slowly so they would enjoy it more.

“We stretched everything out over the course of a couple of years, rather than blasting through in one go. The process has been mixed with about a year-long break, that we all agreed upon. Being rested and taking that time off really made us appreciate what we’re doing even more,” Cunningham told Mixdown.

The band’s ninth studio album still doesn’t have a title or a release date, but we’re excited about it nevertheless. It will see them teaming up with superstar rock producer Terry Date, for the first time since their 2003 self-titled album.
