Boygenius have given us one of the best indie albums of 2023 with The Record, but it turns out this LP could’ve been a tiny bit better. Phoebe Bridgers recently revealed that Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl was almost featured on the supergroups’ debut album.

Bridgers discussed a Dave Grohl collaboration that never was in a recent interview with NME. She revealed they met backstage at a Billie Eilish concert and later linked up again through a mutual friend who toured with Foo Fighters.

Grohl was even supposed to be featured on Boygenius’ album The Record, but this plan eventually fell through because he “slept through” the session and never showed up, but Bridgers harbors no hard feelings towards him.

“I was texting the boys, being like, ‘I met Dave Grohl, and he exceeds every expectation of how a rock star can be in the world’. I think we, as a group, look for that a lot – like, who is living their life the way that we want to get old and live our lives?” said Bridgers.

Boygenius didn’t need Grohl on The Record for this album to become a huge success. The supergroup formed by Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus scored multiple Grammy nominations with this album, including album of the year and record of the year for “Not Strong Enough”.
