Courtney Love has been announced as the recipient of NME’s Icon Award at the music platforms 2020 award ceremony.

The award event is founded by the music magazine, NME. The annual music awards show praises the artists who have contributed the most to the music scene over the years.

This year, Courtney Love will be the artist receiving the prestigious Icon Award. Love rose to fame in the ’90s when she fronted the grunge band, Hole. She has since established a successful career as a solo artist and has been nominated for a Golden Globe for her acting performance in The People vs Larry Flynt. NME has thus named her one of the most influential and iconic singers in alternative music culture.

“I started reading NME in Liverpool in 1981, and was down with the tude,” Love said about the announcement. “I converted fast into a trainspotter waiting every Thursday at the newsagent for my paper. The NME shaped lots of my musical sensibilities and values that I cherish.

“Great photography,  flashes of genius, on top of the most eclectic musical taste. Always challenging. I’m proud of what they’ve achieved and what NME stands for. Thanks little weirdos!”

The NME Awards will be hosted at the O2 Academy Brixton, London on February 12
