Red Hot Chili Peppers just covered Radiohead’s “Pyramid Songs” live at the Egyptian pyramids.

In terms of Radiohead’s catalog, there are a handful of songs from Pablo Honey or The Bends that we could imagine the Chilis covering if we really stretch our imaginations. Of all the Radiohead songs out there though, one of the tracks we would least expect from the Chilli Peppers is “Pyramid Song”. The track was born out of the depths of Radiohead’s experimental stage and it’s soft, tender and stripped back. There’s no slap bass and funk is replaced by Thom Yorke’s tortured soul.

Of course, if we were to picture the Red Hot Chili Peppers covering a song like that, the only scenario it would possibly make sense is if they were playing it in the presence of actual pyramids. And this is exactly what happened last weekend (March 15).

Josh Klinghoffer went solo and played a stripped back cover of the song with his piano. The cover sound surprisingly similar to the original and to hear it played in the presence of the Pyramids of Giza would have been spectacular.
