Britney Spears is putting groundwork for her big comeback. According to a recent report by Page Six, Spears and her team are working on collecting songs for her new album, with English singer Charli XCX being one of the mentioned collaborators.

Reportedly, Spears plans to put together a team of “chart-topping” songwriters for her first studio effort since 2016’s Glory. Charli XCX reportedly completed one song for the “Toxic” singer, while Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter Julia Michaels is expected to contribute in the same manner.

Aside from her successful career as a solo artist, Charli XCX has written songs for music acts like Blondie, Camila Cabello, Iggy Azalea, and will.i.am. Michaels, on the other hand, has written two songs that topped the Billboard Hot 100, Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” and Selena Gomez’s “Lose You to Love Me”.

As of now, Spears has yet to start recording any type of material. She also hasn’t met any of the songwriters working on her new music, but she provided “pointers” on the style she wants.

Since releasing Glory, Spears has only recorded two new songs, with both being collaborations. She provided vocals for the track “Hold Me Closer,” which was featured on Elton John’s The Lockdown Sessions from 2021, while teaming up with will.i.am for 2023’s single “Mind Your Business.”
