Charli XCX currently has five studio albums under her belt, but she probably wouldn’t be where she is today without True Romance. It’s been ten years since she shared her debut studio album with the world, and she celebrated its anniversary with an emotional post on social media.

Charli XCX described True Romance as the “beginning of everything” for her and said she was “just a MySpace kid” trying to figure out what made her tick before finally moving to LA, where she met people who understood her and helped her find her path as an artist.

“[It was] the beginning of discovering myself as a person – my voice, my confidence, my style, how big I could make my hair, how I moved on stage… and the beginning of compiling all of those elements into myself as an artist,” she wrote on social media.

True Romance was released on April 12, 2013, via Asylum and Atlantic Records and produced singles “Nuclear Seasons”, “You’re the One”, and “You (Ha Ha Ha)”.

Following its release, Charli XCX found success as a songwriter, writing for such artists as Selena Gomez and Camila Cabello, but also kept making her own music. Her fifth studio album Crash was released in March of last year, and it became her first no. 1 album in the UK.
