“Calm Down” by Rema and Selena Gomez is definitely one of the songs that summer 2023 will be remembered by, and it’s finally getting credit where credit is due. This song recently crossed one billion streams on Spotify, making history as the first track led by an African artist to reach this milestone.

“Calm Down” was originally released as one of the songs from Rema’s debut album Rave & Roses, but it became a global sensation after Selena Gomez hopped on the remix of this catchy Afrobeats track. The remix peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, in addition to topping the Pop Airplay and Adult Pop Airplay charts.

Only about a year after the remix with Selena Gomez was released in August last year, “Calm Down” joined the Billions Club on Spotify. This is quite a historic achievement for the Nigerian singer Rema, who became the first lead African artist to cross the one billion mark with a single song.

“It’s a blessing. It’s not just a big win for me, my team, and family; it’s also a big one for the culture. I feel really happy, and I’m really proud of the fans as well for going back to the song and putting people onto the song. Shout-out to the DJs and everyone who made this possible,” said Rema in a statement.
