Cage the Elephant, one of the best alternative bands working today, is finally ready to drop their next studio album. After a four-year-long break, the Kentucky rockers announced they’ll make a comeback this year with Social Cues.

The band’s fifth studio album is set to be released on April 19, and they gave us a taste of it with first single “Ready to Let Go.” This song was inspired by a trip to Pompeii, where frontman Matt Shultz and his wife decided it’s time for them to go their separate ways.

Shultz leaned into the darkness of his divorce while writing this new album, but it wasn’t the only thing that inspired him to go to darker places. Fassbinder films he was watching at the time also helped him a lot during his creative process.

“It can be a vehicle to act out things that are hard to confront. When I’m creating, I try to put myself in a reactive state of improvisational thought. I let images just arise in my mind and wait for it to evoke an emotional response and then when it does, I know I’m on to something,” revealed Shultz.
