Boygenius walked away with three Grammy Awards on Sunday night, but this triumph was bittersweet for their fans. Their Grammy success comes shortly after the indie supergroup announced they’re going on an indefinite hiatus during a secret show in Los Angeles.

Only a few days before the music’s biggest night, Boygenius took the stage in LA and performed a secret show for their fans. They described this performance as their last show and said they’re “going away for the foreseeable future.”

This announcement came as a huge shocker for the group’s fans, but it makes sense in the grand scheme of things. Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus were all accomplished musicians before forming this supergroup and releasing their debut album The Record last year. They haven’t given a reason for their hiatus, but they’re most likely taking a break to focus on solo projects.

Shortly after announcing their break, Boygenius reunited at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night and walked away with three trophies. The Record won them the award for the best alternative music album, while “Not Strong Enough” was named best rock song and best rock performance. Phoebe Bridgers also won one more award for best pop duo/group performance for “Ghost in the Machine” alongside SZA.
