Green Day’s frontman Billie Joe Armstrong dedicated the latest edition of his No Fun Mondays quarantine series to the recently deceased singer/songwriter Adam Schlesinger.

Armstrong covered the track “That Thing You Do!” which was written by Schlesinger for the 1996’s comedy of the same name. The song was originally performed by the movie’s fictional band The Wonders.

Schlesinger was an Emmy and Grammy Award winner, known for being part of the bands Fountains of Wayne, Ivy, and Tinted Windows. He also wrote music for film, television, and other musicians.

Armstrong put his own touch on “That Thing You Do!” giving the track a punk feel and injecting it with some energetic vocals. Hear his cover below.

With No Fun Mondays, Billie Joe Armstrong found a way to stay in touch with his fans and deliver them good music on a regular basis. As part of the series, Armstrong previously covered Bangles’ “Manic Monday,” Johnny Thunders’ “You Can’t Put Your Arms Around a Memory,” and several others.

Armstrong recently also took part in the Lady Gaga-curated TV special Global Citizens’ One World: Together at Home, when he performed a stripped-down version of Green Bay’s “Wake Me Up When September Ends.”
