The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris have given us many unforgettable moments in the past few weeks, and the closing ceremony was definitely one of them. Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, and Red Hot Chili Peppers were among the performers, and they did a great job setting the stage for the next Olympics in Los Angeles.
The closing featured a mix of pre-taped and live performances, and its musical portion served as a symbolic handoff of the Summer Olympic Games from Paris to Los Angeles. It featured a mix of artists representing California, including Billie Eilish from Highland Park, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre as representatives of West the Coast rap, and the Los Angeles natives the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Eilish was accompanied by Finneas while singing a breezy cover of her sleeper hit “Birds of a Feather”, as a part of the LA28 Handover Celebration. Snoop Dogg was joined by Dr. Dre while performing a medley of 2000s hits “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “The Next Episode”, while the Red Hot Chili Peppers gave us an epic rendition of “Can’t Stop”.
The list of performers also included H.E.R., who performed the United States national anthem as part of the handover, plus French singers Phoenix and Angèle, tuning in with live sets from Paris. In addition to several music performances, Tom Cruise made a special appearance and performed a stunt descending from the top of the Stade de France, as a nod to Los Angeles’ Hollywood connection.
