The first Coachella weekend featured many surprise appearances, and Lana Del Rey welcomed one of the festival’s most exciting special guests on stage. Billie Eilish joined her for an emotional cover of her own breakout hit “Ocean Eyes”.
Del Rey is one of the artists headlining Coachella this year, and she had a perfect partner in crime during the festival’s opening night. Eilish joined her for a magical performance of her hit song “Ocean Eyes”, which came out in 2016 as a part of her debut EP Don’t Smile at Me.
Del Rey thanked Eilish for hitting the Coachella stage by her side, and described her as the voice of a generation, adding that “Ocean Eyes” is her favorite song by Eilish.
Eilish has been very vocal about her admiration for Del Rey long before joining her at Coachella. She interviewed her for Interview Magazine just last year and opened up about Del Rey’s impact on her music.
“You really paved the way for everyone. People have been trying to look and sound like you since you first started. I talk about this with Finneas [O’Connell]. You changed the way the music industry hears and sees music, and you changed the way people sing,” Eilish told Del Rey.
