Beyonce made history on Sunday night when she won her 28th Grammy, making her the singer with the most Grammys of all time. In addition, this tied her with Quincy Jones in the ranking of most overall Grammys for anyone alive today.

After winning her accolades, Beyonce delivered a heartfelt speech that reflected on her past and all of the things she sacrificed to get where she is today. However, her mom later corrected her about one of the things she said.

Beyonce talked about how she’d worked tirelessly since she was 9 years old, but Tina Knowles Lawson, Beyonce’s mother, disagreed: “She said ‘since she was 9 years old.’ Well, I remember 7 years old!”

In a loving statement about her daughter’s impeccable work ethic, Lawson said: “So much blood, sweat, and tears, intense training, vocal lessons, dance lessons, running and singing with your dad every morning, missed parties and proms, hardly any playing outside.”

She went on to say that Beyonce had “total dedication and tremendous 100 percent focus.” Her message to young kids out there was that you don’t receive the amount of success her daughter received “without huge sacrifices and pure dedication.”

But more than Beyonce’s music success, Lawson had an additional note to add: “I am so proud not of just the 28 Grammys, but for the incredible human being you have managed to stay.”
