BabyMetal may no longer be a trio, but the remaining duo of Su-metal and Moametal still think of the departing Yuimetal as family.

In an exclusive interview to Metal Hammer the two current members of Babymetal, and their manager Kobametal, spoke about Yuimetal’s departure and the band’s next album, Metal Galaxy, which is scheduled to come out next month.

“We’ve been together for a long time – Yuimetal is like a family member to this group,” says Su-metal. “Although she has left, we’ll continue to support her and hope that she can pursue what she’d like to do in the future.”

Yuimetal announced her retirement from Babymetal in 2018, but has been mostly absent from the band’s activity since 2017. She cited wanting to pursue a solo career as the main reason for leaving and said she’ll perform under her real name of Yui Mizuno.

Manager Kobametal addressed her concern over Yuimetal’s departure and how it might affect the Su-metal and Moametal: “Obviously I was worried about them, but at the same time I respect each member – and both of them have become adults, and each of them are continuing Babymetal because they want to. I definitely appreciate that. There’s a sort of trust between this group and I trust that they want to do it.”
