Arctic Monkeys released their sixth studio album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino earlier this year and caught everyone by surprise. The record was the exact opposite to critically acclaimed AM from 2013 and left fans divided with its piano-based sound. If you are one of those curious fans who are wondering how the British rock band came up with this strange album, you can now get a glimpse into the recording process of Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino in Ben Chappell’s new mini-documentary Warp Speed Chic.

Chappell, who is the band’s longtime collaborator, found himself in the studio with Arctic Monkey as the group was coming up with the songs and managed to capture that process on film.

“I was still only hearing bits and pieces of the tunes as they were being recorded,” – explained Chappell.

Then, one year later, he went to band’s live show in Lyon, France, and filmed the finished versions of the tracks.

“I put the live songs next to my shots of them recording and found it to be quite nice,” – he added. “With that as a starting point, I then used [producer] James Ford’s instrumental mixes of the album and I put an assortment of the images we created for this album overtop, giving a glimpse into the last year and the full progression of Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino.”

Besides this new documentary, Arctic Monkeys also plan to release 7″ vinyl of the song “Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino,” which will contain a new B-side “Anyways.” The release is scheduled for November 30th.
