A new indie star? The audience at Newport Folk Festival 2019 was treated to a surprise as Kermit the Frog made an appearance, backed by Janet Weiss, formerly from Sleater-Kinney, on drums.

Kermit performed “Rainbow Connection,” and halfway through the song, he was joined by Jim James, My Morning Jacket’s frontman.

Sunday was the festival’s last day, and performances included the likes of Portugal. The Man, Hozier, and Nilüfer Yanya.

Earlier in the festival, the audience got to listen to Brandi Carlile’s The Highwomen which featured Judy Collins, Sheryl Crow, Maggie Rogers, Maren Morris, Linda Perry, Jade Bird, and more. The group was also joined by Dolly Parton for a “Jolene”, cover.
