Coming up with an original band name is becoming increasingly different and consequently, many bands have opted for a good old-fashioned pun.

Here are 10 of the best (and worst!) bands who made it big with a pun in their name.

The Dandy Warhols

The Dandy Warhols named their band after the famous pop artist, Andy Warhol. They are more than just a gimmick though and have released 9 studio albums.

Foxygen

American indie rock duo is great fun, which you can definitely tell from the name.

Dread Zeppelin

There’s no shortage of reggae and ska bands who have made use of band puns in their name. This has got to be one of the best though.

The Ska-Skank Redemption

This pun is terrible but we couldn’t resist including it.

Chet Faker

The electronic superstar chose to make his stage name a tribute to the wonderful jazz musician, Chet Baker.

Camper Van Beethoven

Even though their music career was short-lived, you have to give these guys points for creativity.

Sigmund Droid

This New York-based grunge duo decided to name their band after the father of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud.

This combination of The Beatles and Star Wars is right on the money.

The Dead Kennedys

The punk band’s name rhymes with Ted Kennedy, who was the only surviving member of the Kennedy siblings.

The Beatles

A lot of people don’t actually even realize that the most influential rock band of all time has a pun in its name. The insect they are named after is typically spelled “beetles” but they added the word “beat” to make it musical.
