Top 5 Songs From Netflix’s “Someone Great”

Brittany Snow, Gina Rodriguez, and DeWanda Wise in "Someone Great"

Netflix never had any trouble giving us new original rom-coms to obsess about, and they’ve done it again with Someone Great. Every aspect of this break-up flick starring Gina Rodriguez is an absolute delight, but its soundtrack makes the whole thing 100% better.

Music was the most important side character in this Netflix hit, and not only because the main character just happens to be working at the legendary magazine Rolling Stone. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who wrote and directed this film, was once a music writer herself, and this film wouldn’t be what it is if it wasn’t for her background in this industry.

The film’s title actually originates from LCD Soundsystem’s song of the same name, but this band wasn’t even her main source of inspiration.

“The songs that came first were Lorde’s ‘Supercut’ and UGK’s ‘International Players Anthem. They were the grounding places I started. I’d say ‘Supercut’ was written into the movie. It existed in the movie before any of the people in the movie existed,” explained Robinson in an interview with Rolling Stone.

Check out our five favorite songs from Someone Great:

Lorde – Supercut

Phoebe Bridgers – Motion Sickness

Lizzo – Truth Hurts

Mitski – Your Best American Girl

UGK – International Players Anthem
