2024 will mark the return of many of our favorite artists, including the British indie band The XX. The singer Romy Madley Croft recently discussed their plans for the future NME and revealed they’re plotting an “exciting new album” for the first time since 2017.

It’s been almost six years since the release of The XX’s last studio album I See You, and they’ve mostly been focusing on solo projects in recent years. Oliver Sim released his debut solo album Hideous Bastard in 2022, and Croft followed suit last year, with her debut solo album Mid Air.

Croft’s debut created quite a splash and she even received a Grammy nod for the lead single “Strong”, but she’s ready to partner up with The XX again. She believes they’ve “learned a lot from different projects” during their time apart and are now looking forward to joining forces again.

“I think it’s quite wide open and it’s exciting to be starting again in a way. But we’ve started making some music and I’m really excited about it… It’s still pretty early [but] I still think you’ll be able to tell it’s us but I think we’re excited to move it on and keep it feeling fresh,” Croft told NME.
