After years in the making, Avatar: The Way of Water is finally hitting the theaters this month and its soundtrack is turning out to be amazing. The Weeknd just dropped hints about new music tied to the soundtrack of James Cameron’s highly-anticipated film.

The Canadian hitmaker announced this project with a mysterious teaser clip on social media, but the fans immediately figured out what he was teasing. The short video featured a blue letter “A” with a bird at its center, making it clear his new song will be featured in the next Avatar movie.

The singer captioned the post with “12.16.22”, which just happens to be the release date of Avatar: The Way of Water. Jon Landau, the film’s producer, confirmed The Weeknd’s involvement, posting a photo alongside the singer, followed by a caption that reads, “As the Na’vi say, ‘Zola’u nìprrte’ soaiane Avatar’… Welcome to the Avatar family.”

The Weeknd hasn’t released any new solo music since the release of his fifth studio album Dawn FM earlier this year. It produced hit singles “Take My Breath”, “Sacrifice”, “Out of Time” and “Less than Zero” and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. He’s promoting it with the After Hours til Dawn Tour, which is set to continue with the European leg next year.
