The National joined the efforts to help Australia following the country’s efforts to repair the damages done by ravaging bushfires at the beginning of the year. The band recently recorded a cover of INXS’ classic “Never Tear Us Apart,” which will be part of the compilation Songs For Australia.

Songs For Australia, set for release on March 13th, features notable musicians covering the songs of Australian acts. All the proceedings from the compilation, which also features Kurt Vile, Julia Stone, and Damien Rice among others, will benefit organizations “who are working towards creating a better future for the country and helping to rebuild during and after the bushfire crisis.”

INXS’ released “Never Tear Us Apart” in 1988 as the fourth single from their acclaimed sixth studio record Kick. The lyrics were penned by the band’s late frontman Michael Hutchence, while keyboardist Andrew Farriss did the music. The song ended up becoming a big hit for the band, and arguably one of their most recognizable tracks ever.
