]]>Malik teased the release of Room Under the Stairs with the lead single “What I Am” last month, and there’s more where that came from! “Alienated” will hit the shelves on April 12 as the album’s second single, and it’s one of its 15 tracks, along with “Grateful”, “Gates of Hell”, “Concrete Kisses”, and “Something in the Water”.
Malik previously said that his intention for this album is to give us more insight into who he is “personally as a human being.” He also revealed it will be inspired by his real-life experiences, including his relationship with his daughter, during an appearance on Call Her Daddy podcast.
Dave Cobb co-produced this album alongside Malik and he told Rolling Stone that “this record is removing the glass from his spirit directly to his fans” because you can really hear the singer’s “love, loss, pain, triumph and humanity in [his voice]”.
Room Under the Stairs will be released on May 17 via Mercury and Republic Records.

]]>Malik embarked on his solo journey after leaving One Direction in 2015, but he hasn’t forgotten his roots. He opened up about his time with the band in an interview on a Stationhead stream and said he enjoys listening back to the band’s back catalog.
“I’ve been listening to a bit of One Direction music recently, reminiscing. Good times. We made some good music as a band. We were pretty good,” said Malik.
Malik joined One Direction in 2010, alongside Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson, following their auditions for the British singing competition show The X Factor. They went on to become one of the best-selling boy bands of all time, but it all came crashing down when Malik left in 2015 and they officially went on hiatus one year later.
Malik is currently gearing up for the release of his fourth solo studio album Room Under the Stairs. It will hit the shelves on May 17, and he promoted its release with the lead single “What I Am”.
