]]>The post Nicki Minaj’s Sets Another Major Spotify Record With “Pink Friday 2” appeared first on Hot Pop Today.
]]>Pink Friday 2 hit the shelves on December 8, 2023, and its release was preceded by singles “Super Freaky Girl”, “Red Ruby da Sleeze”, and “Last Time I Saw You”, the first of which became Minaj’s first solo single to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Following its release, Pink Friday 2 easily soared to the top of the Billboard 200 chart, becoming the rapper’s third LP to do so. It also helped her break the tie with Foxy Brown for most No. 1 albums among female rappers, leaving her as the sole holder of this record.
One month after its release, Pink Friday 2 is still pushing boundaries on Spotify, and Chart Data reports it already surpassed the one billion mark. This makes it the fastest album by a female rapper to reach this coveted number, and it transformed Minaj into the first female rapper to have five albums with over one billion streams on Spotify.

]]>In a clip posted on social media, Minaj can be seen going through the first few lines of “Starships” while relying on the crowd to do most of the singing. She then waves her hand to the DJ, telling him to stop the music.
“I don’t perform that song no more, y’all. I don’t like it, what y’all want me to do? Stupid song,” Minaj tells the audience before resuming the show with “Super Bass”.
This isn’t the first time that Minaj expressed her dislike for “Starships.” During an interview in 2020 with Pollstar Live, the rapper said that she straight out “hates” the song. She also mentioned “Anaconda” and “Your Love” as some of her tracks that she wished she never recorded.
“Starships” served as the lead single for Nicki Minaj’s second studio album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. It spent 21 weeks in the Top 10 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts while being certified platinum nine times.

]]>Pink Friday 2 hit No. 1 with 228,000 equivalent album units earned during its first week on the chart. It’s her third album to top the Billboard 200 following the success of her debut album Pink Friday and its follow-up Pink Friday: Reloaded, making her the only female rapper to top the chart three times.
Pink Friday 2 also earned 129,000 SEA units, equaling 169.87 million on-demand official streams of the set’s 22 songs, earning Minaj her largest streaming week ever. Pure album sales comprise 92,000 equivalent album units, while TEA units comprise 7,000.
Pink Friday 2 also had the largest week for a female rap album of the 2020s and the largest for a female R&B/hip-hop album this year. With 25,000 vinyl copies sold, this album made history as the best-selling rap album by a woman in a single week.
Pink Friday 2 was released on December 8, and it was preceded by the lead single “Super Freaky Girl”, which became Minaj’s first solo single to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

]]>This week has been pretty epic for hip-hop collaborations, starring with B.G. and Gucci Mane’s new album Choppers & Bricks, which produced the song “Talk”.
Nicki Minaj teamed up with Monica and Keyshia Cole for “Love Me Enough”, a bonus track featured on a deluxe edition of her latest album Pink Friday 2. “Lace It” by the late Juice WRLD, Eminem, and Benny Blanco also made the cut, along with Bas’s “Home Alone” feat. J. Cole.
Speaking of epic collaborations that hit the shelves this week, none of them created more buzz than Reneé Rapp & Megan Thee Stallion’s “Not My Fault”. They both channeled their inner Regina George in this catchy bop, set to be featured in the upcoming Mean Girls musical remake.
Check out the rest of our list for this week, and get ready to discover new music by Lil Baby, Karol G, John Legend, James Arthur, and more.

]]>The post Nicki Minaj Denies Kanye West Permission to Use Her Verse on “New Body” appeared first on Hot Pop Today.
]]>West recently went on social media platform X (former Twitter) to share a screenshot of the message he sent to Minaj in which he asks for clearance to use the verse while also tagging the “Anaconda” rapper.
Shortly after, Minaj had an Instagram Live session in which she explained the reasons for not giving West permission.
“That train has left the station,” said Minaj before explaining that she had just released a “brand new album”.
“Why would I put out a song that has been out for three years?” she added.
Despite never officially coming out, “New Body” has been known among rap fans for a while now. It was initially supposed to be part of West’s album Yandhi before he scrapped the entire project in 2018. The track also didn’t make the cut West’s 2019 record Jesus Is King but ended up being leaked a year after and received positive reviews from the audience.

]]>The post Does Nicki Minaj’s “Pink Friday 2” Live Up to the Original? appeared first on Hot Pop Today.
]]>Nicki Minaj kicked off a new era for female rappers when she dropped Pink Friday in 2010 and gave us such smash hits as “Super Bass” and “Your Love”. This album propelled Minaj to worldwide fame and served as the jumping-off point for the rest of her career.
She decided to revisit the world she created with Pink Friday over a decade later, and kicked off her journey with the chart-topping hit “Super Freaky Girl”. It’s definitely one of the album’s strongest suits, but it will take quite a while to get there when you’re listening to the album in full.
With 22 tracks clocking at 70 minutes, Pink Friday 2 really has no business being that long. Minaj kept her Barbz waiting for this sequel long enough, and they’ll appreciate every song and every beat, but casual listeners will wish she wrapped things up earlier, especially since she saved some of the best tracks for the second half, including “Pink Friday Girls”, “Super Freaky Girl”, and “Last Time I Saw You”.
The album’s second biggest problem is Minaj’s heavy reliance on samples, which strip Pink Friday 2 of the originality of its predecessors. From Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” to Billie Eilish’s “When the Party’s Over”, this record contains so many samples that it’s hard to tell where they end and Minaj’s verses begin.
Despite all its flaws, Pink Friday 2 proves that Minaj is still one of the best rappers in the game, and her verses are as sharp as ever. This sequel may not push boundaries like its original, but it’s a worthy successor to Pink Friday, and it will certainly please her hardcore fans.

]]>Nicki Minaj’s long-awaited album Pink Friday 2 finally hit the shelves this week, and it was worth the wait! This album has given us countless epic songs, but “Pink Friday Girls”, which samples Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”, is definitely one of the standouts.
Tate McRae also knocked it out of the park with her sophomore album “Think Later”. The Canadian singer is living up to the title of the next pop princess, and “Run for the Hills” is one of the best songs that her second studio album has in store.
This week has also been amazing for fans of R&B, with Griff’s “Astronaut”, Tems’s “Not An Angel”, and “Risk It All” by Usher and H.E.R. from The Color Purple making it to our list.
New songs by Alec Benjamin, Green Day, Fletcher, Peso Pluma, and Anitta also made the cut, so stick around to hear them out!

]]>Minaj was one of the artists expected to be featured on Drake’s new album For All the Dogs, and her fans were shocked to see her missing from the tracklist. It eventually turned out that Drake and Minaj were working on something after all, and “For All the Barbz” hit the shelves just two weeks after the release of Drake’s new album.
The freestyle in “For All the Barbz” sees Minaj taking aim at other rappers who followed in her footsteps, many of whom she collaborated with in the past. The line VMAs was a family reunion / First time in a while I seen all of my sons” makes it pretty clear she’s referring to Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, and Ice Spice.
Mina’s next album Pink Friday 2 will hit the shelves on November 17, and it will feature previously released singles “Last Time I Saw You” and “Super Freaky Girl”, which became the first solo female rap song to debut atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the 21st century.

Minaj wrote a sweet message for her fans after sharing “Last Time I Saw You” with the world last Friday, and described her upcoming LP as the best album that’s been released in years.
